On October 17th, 2022, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) for four PFAS compounds. The standards apply to residential and non-residential sites/areas of concern.
Four compounds have new standards for the ingestion-dermal exposure pathway:
- Perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA)
- Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)
- Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS)
- Hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid and its ammonium salt (GenX).
Three compounds also have leachate standards for the migration to ground water pathway: PFNA, PFOA, and PFOS. Soil remediation standard for the MGW pathway are to be derived on a site/area of concern basis using these new interim leachate standards.
The full document with explanation for the science behind the standards is available , and NJDEP has with the criteria, reporting limits, and fact sheets.
